Craig Kellman

Craig Kellman is an award-winning illustrator, animator, and character designer. He is currently Creative Director at Mrs Wordsmith.

Craig has more than 25 years’ experience in the world of animation. After studying animation at the California Institute of the Arts, Craig embarked upon a glittering career in TV and film which has seen him nominated for multiple Annie and Emmy Awards. Craig was the lead artist and character designer behind the hugely popular Madagascar and Hotel Transylvania films, and his credits also include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and many more.

Susan Neuman
Expert Advisor

Professor Susan Neuman is an educator, researcher, and education policy-maker in early childhood and literacy development. She has been an Advisor to Mrs Wordsmith since 2017.

Susan’s distinguished academic career has seen her write and edit 12 books and more than 100 peer-reviewed articles on many aspects of childhood literacy. Susan served as Assistant Secretary of Elementary and Secondary Education in the US Department of Education from 2001 to 2003, and in 2013 became Professor of Early Childhood and Literacy Education, and Chair of the Department of Teaching and Learning at NYU's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.

Ted Briscoe
Expert Advisor

Professor Ted Briscoe is an expert in computational linguistics, speech and language processing, textual information processing, and evolutionary linguistics. He has been an Advisor to Mrs Wordsmith since 2017.

Ted is Professor of Computational Linguistics at the University of Cambridge and the inaugural director of the Alta Institute, which conducts research into automated language teaching and assessment. He has published over 100 research articles and three books in the areas of automated speech and language processing. He was senior editor of the journal Computer Speech and Language for 15 years, and is co-founder and CEO of iLexIR Ltd., a consultancy and technology provider specialising in language processing applications. In 2009, iLexIR spun-out Swiftkey, maker of the world's most popular predictive keyboard for smartphones.

Emma Madden
Expert Advisor

Emma Madden is the headteacher at London’s Fox Primary School, which has been named as the UK’s highest-performing primary school for three consecutive years. She has been an Advisor to Mrs Wordsmith since 2017.

After studying English Literature at the University of Cambridge, Emma completed her PGCE and Masters of teaching at the Institute of Education. She was appointed Head of School at Fox Primary in 2016. Emma also works in an advisory capacity to many schools, coordinating school-to-school support. She provides training to teachers in schools across London, and was pivotal in trialling Mrs Wordsmith’s early vocabulary resources in the classroom.

Michael Levine
Expert Advisor

Michael Levine is Sesame Workshop’s first Chief Knowledge Officer, and an expert on children’s education and media. He has been an advisor to Mrs Wordsmith since 2019.

Michael is the founding executive director of The Joan Ganz Cooney Center, an independent research group which promotes innovation in learning via digital media. He has also served as advisor to a number of US government agencies including the White House, the Department of Education, PBS, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Michael speaks regularly on the topic of education and media, and serves on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations.

Ian Brookes
Lexicography Advisor

Ian Brookes is a lexicographer, writer, and editor. He has been Mrs Wordsmith’s Lexicography Advisor since 2016.

Ian is the former editor-in-chief to the Chambers Dictionary and is exceptionally experienced in the field of lexicography, having contributed to the creation of over 50 dictionaries and reference books for Chambers, HarperCollins, and Oxford University Press. Ian has a passion for cricket, and has written a book on Essex County Cricket Club.
